COURSE DETAILS.
Thank you to all the customers who have attended our classes. I trust you enjoyed the informal atmosphere at our workshops. The room is small so spaces are limited to a maximum of six people per class. This allows our excellent tutors the chance to teach their subject properly. In all classes individual tuition is guaranteed. We want you to discover the joy of sewing. Please note the classroom is located on the first floor of the shop.
Some of the courses include all of the materials which you require and are donated by * sign.
Tea & coffee are included and we suggest you bring a packed lunch. All you need to bring is your complete machine (in working order) and a basic sewing kit. For some specialist courses you will be sent a list of requirements, this allows you the freedom of choice to select colours etc. If you have difficulty bringing your machine we will gladly lend you one.
Remember you can drive down Friars Street before 11.00 and after 16.00 to load & unload your machine.
Tea & Coffee are available from 09.30. Classes start promptly at 10.00.
CONDITIONS
Refunds for cancellations will only be issued on the following basis:
Notice of 14-28 days prior to course - 80%
Notice of 7-13 days prior to course - 50%
Notice of less than 7 days - Nil
A lot of our courses have a waiting list so if you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible and if we are able to fill your place we will give you a credit for a future course. If we have to make an unavoidable cancellation, we will endeavour to offer you an alternative date or a full refund will be given. The course schedule may be subject to change depending on demand for the class(es) and tutors may be replaced at short notice. Payment is due at time of booking, any instructions and requirements will be sent on receipt from tutor. |

The course covers threading, threads, needles, cleaning, which stitch to use for what and how to balance the stitches, how to do a rolled hem and how to gather fabric. The first in a series of classes, come for one or as many to suit your diary. These workshops will be tailored to your needs. Get back to basics, learning the most up to date methods for doing markings, darts, zips and the easiest pocket welt ever. Learn how to take the measurements you require to choose the correct size of pattern. Make and fit a toile before making up the garment of your choice. The procedures covered in our successful course last year included pattern drafting for jackets, skirts and a bodice block, the basis for dresses and tops. Christine will contact each student before the class to arrange a timetable and requirements.

It is a myth that sewing with knitted fabrics is difficult. With the correct needle, thread, stitch and pattern anyone can do it. During the day we will learn all of those things and as well as looking at different fabric types and learning the best way to treat them. We will make a portfolio of samples for future reference including neck and hem finishes, seams and Chanel edge

Making trousers is easy, the tricky part can be in the fitting. By making your own pattern some of these problems can be eliminated. First you will draft a regular fit classic trouser from your own measurements and make and fit a toile. Once your toile fits you will make up the trousers, adding design to the block pattern and fine tune the fitting. You will learn procedures such as zip insertion, pockets and waistbands. Bring fabric, sewing kit and calico for toile plus pencil, ruler, calculator and rubber for pattern drafting. Some people require 3 days so the option of joining one of the dressmaking days is there.

We will learn the basics of free machining then put these skills to use to make a small bowl. Bring a selection of machine embroidery threads in your colour scheme include some metallic and a quilting foot for your machine. Also bring a hair drier or heat gun if you have one.
